The research laboratory will be a key feature

The aim of the CVI laboratory is to offer users and professionals all the technology available on the market and under development that can be applied specifically to people with autonomy problems. A proactive approach will be an essential characteristic of the laboratory. Research will be carried out to find products as they appear on the market, and a lookout will be kept for products presented at conferences and specialized technical seminars.

At the laboratory:

  • Two-level research will be made: integration and adaptation of existing technologies to reduce dependence and research and development of new products to be commercialized later on
  • Proactively, market searches of new products will be done: those that are already in the market and those that be presented in congresses and specialized technical conferences
  • There will be cooperation with similar laboratories and other reference centers in domotics and accessible technology
  • It will offer its facilities for the valoration of prototypes in development at University
  • It will deliver ideas and innovative projects that improve the autonomy of dependent people to Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya so that applied research can be done
  • Together with Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, it will be the referent in research, development and innovation and in the validation of products of support and technology applied to dependent people

PDA

In fact, the laboratory will offer two kinds of services to dependent users and companies and institutions. First, users will be able to try out technical-support products. And, second, they will be able to ask for technical support and products that increase their autonomy and which, once developed, can be offered to one of the Centre's associated companies to be marketed. Very close relations will also be established with the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) through its Accessibility Chair and Equal Opportunities Office, which are responsible for projects on dependence at the UPC.

The Accessibility Chair will channel communications between the CVI and the different departments and research groups at the UPC. The CVI will also offer its facilities for the evaluation of prototypes under development and will inform the UPC about any ideas and innovative projects it considers suitable for improving the autonomy of dependent people, but which need applied research.

The CVI laboratory will cooperate with other leading home-automation and accessible-technology centres and similar laboratories in other parts of Spain.
