The CVI takes many factors into account

There are approximately 322,000 dependent people in Catalonia, 210.000 of whom are over 65. And there are 357,000 disabled people.

The objective of Act 39/2006 of 14 December 2006 on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for Dependent People is to provide solutions for these population groups.

The Social Health Master Plan approved by the Catalan government's Decree 39 of 14 March 2006 defines the need for Catalonia's healthcare system to take measures to improve the ageing population's quality of life and postpone as far as possible elderly people's dependence on others, while also paying particular attention to neurodegenerative diseases and brain injuries.

New technologies are advancing in countless fields and can be of great help to improve many aspects of our daily lives and make life easier for dependent and disabled people, improve their quality of life and increase their autonomy. Duly adapted technology can assist these groups in many ways: safety, security, communication, mobility, activities for daily living (ADLs), etc. Relationship situations with the surroundings in a real environment are linked to so-called "environmental intelligence", whose objective is to make the environment adapt to the user's needs.

The aim of the Independent Living Centre (CVI) is to provide a service for dependent elderly people by taking advantage of all the tools that new technologies have placed within their reach, and to provide similar care to other population groups in comparable situations.
